We can think that the celebration of the Halloween has two origins that in the course of the history were mixed: On the one hand we find the pagan origin of the celebration, which assumes to the Celtic celebration of the "Samhain" (summer end), which had as aim give worship to the dead men. The invasion of the Romans (46 A.C) to the British Isles gave like proved the mixture of his Celtic culture, which with the time ended for disappearing. His religion called druidism, with the evangelización ended for becoming extinct in the majority of the Celtic communities at the end of the 2nd century.

On the religion of the Druids know that the festivities of "Samhain" is quite possibly held between 5 and 7 November (half the summer equinox and the winter solstice) with a series of festivities that lasted a week, ending with the feast of the dead and thus began the Celtic New Year.

Foto: Getty Images
•In this celebration they were feasting what for us would be the " sky and the land " (concepts that came only with the christianity). For them the place of the dead men was a place of perfect happiness in which there was neither hunger nor pain. The Celts were practising rites in which the priests Druids, serving as 'medium', were communicating with his forbears waiting to be guided of this life towards the immortal one. It is said that the spirits of the dead men were coming in this date to visit his former homes.

•Meanwhile, from the fourth century Syrian church devoted a day to celebrate "All Martyrs". Three centuries later, Pope Boniface IV transformed a Roman temple dedicated to all gods (Pantheon) in a Christian church in honor of "All Saints" and all those who had preceded us in faith. The celebration began on May 13, but Pope Gregory III changed the date to November 1, which was the day of the "Dedication" of the Chapel of All Saints in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

• Later, in the year 840, Pope Gregory IV ordered this to be a universal festival and they had one night "vigil" on October 31. This preparation in English culture is translated into their language as "All Hallow's Even" (Vigil of All Saints).

With the passage of time his pronunciation was changing

first " All Hallowed Eve ", later it changed " All Hallow Even"

to finish in the word that today we know "Halloween".
